templ — Terms of Service

Effective date: 8 October 2026 Last updated: 8 October 2026

These Terms are an agreement between you and Synlabs ("templ", "we", "us") covering your use of the templ app and related services (the "Service"). By installing or using templ you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who can use templ

  • You must be able to form a binding contract under the law that applies to you. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf and supervise your use of paid and AI features.
  • You must not use templ if the law forbids you from doing so.

2. Your account

Signing in with Google is optional. Most features work without an account. If you sign in, keep your Google account secure; you are responsible for activity under it. You can delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy).

3. Your content

"Your content" means the notes, flashcards, tasks, books, documents, images, drawings and prompts you create in or import into templ.

  • You own your content. We claim no ownership of it.
  • You give us a limited licence to process your content only to run the features you use. For example, sending a prompt to an AI provider, or writing a backup to your Google Drive. This licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies already sent to process a request you made.
  • You are responsible for having the rights to anything you import. Do not import pirated books or material you are not permitted to copy.

4. AI features

templ uses third-party AI models to generate answers, notes, flashcards, quizzes, lessons, simulations and search summaries ("AI Output").

  • AI Output can be wrong. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or made up while sounding confident. Check anything important against a reliable source. AI Output is not professional advice (medical, legal, financial, exam-board or otherwise).
  • AI Output is generated for you. To the extent we hold any rights in it, we assign them to you. Similar output may be generated for other users.
  • Web search results come from third-party sources we do not control. We do not endorse them.
  • Fair use limits. Each plan includes a usage allowance. We may slow down or pause AI features when you reach it, and we may change allowances with notice.

5. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • break the law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
  • use templ to create content that sexualises minors, promotes violence or terrorism, harasses others, or is otherwise prohibited under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021;
  • try to get around usage limits, plan restrictions or security, or access other users' data;
  • reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse our servers or AI endpoints, including automated or bulk requests;
  • use templ to cheat in an exam or assessment that forbids it;
  • resell or sublicense the Service.

We may suspend or end access for serious or repeated breaches. Where it is practical, we will tell you why first.

6. Paid plans

  • templ Plus and templ Premium are auto-renewing subscriptions sold through Google Play. The price, billing period and features are shown on the paywall and in Google Play before you buy. Prices include applicable taxes such as GST where Google Play collects them.
  • Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. You keep paid features until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds are covered in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
  • If we change a price, Google Play will notify you and, where required, ask you to agree before the new price applies.

7. Our intellectual property

The templ app, its design, hand-drawn artwork, characters (including the capybara mascot), name and logo belong to us or our licensors. You may use the app for personal, non-commercial learning. These Terms do not give you any right to use our trademarks.

8. Third-party services

templ relies on Google (Firebase, Gemini, Play, Drive), OpenRouter and other providers. Your use of Google sign-in, Google Play and Google Drive is also governed by Google's own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our control.

9. Backups and data loss

Most of your data lives only on your device. If you uninstall the app or lose your phone without a backup, that data may be gone for good. Use the backup feature regularly. We are not liable for data loss you could have prevented with a backup.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet any particular learning or exam outcome. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or other consumer laws that cannot be excluded.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits or opportunity. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or ₹1,000 if you paid nothing. This does not limit liability for fraud, or for anything the law does not allow us to limit.

12. Indemnity

If you breach these Terms or the law in a way that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable losses from that claim.

13. Ending the agreement

You can stop using templ and delete your account at any time. We may stop offering the Service, or any feature, with reasonable notice. If we shut down a paid feature during a period you have paid for, we will refund the unused part. Sections 3, 7 and 9–15 survive termination.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms. We will give notice in the app at least 15 days before a material change takes effect. If you continue to use templ after that, you accept the change.

15. Law, disputes and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Robertsganj, India have exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any right you have to bring a claim in your local consumer forum.

Grievance Officer: Avii, hello@synlabs.tech, Hydel Road, Robertsganj. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days.
